Premises Liability

“Premises liability” is the legal term that refers to the duty and responsibility a property owner has to maintain a safe environment on their premises. Such a duty includes warning individuals of any dangers or defective conditions on the property and taking the necessary steps, when possible, to repair such safety hazards.

A premises liability claim can arise in a variety of ways. It can happen due to:

  • Slipping and falling on a wet floor or pavement

  • Tripping and falling due to debris on the floor, poor lighting, or broken hand railings

  • Unfinished or damaged stairwells

  • Being attacked by an animal on the property

  • Any other hazardous conditions
